Incident Investigation Policy
Summary explaining the Club's New Policy
WHAT IS THE NEW POLICY?
At their meeting held on March XX, 2001 the Board members or elected officers of the Club adopted a new Incident Investigation Policy. This is a one-page summary of the Club's new 10-page policy.
WHY DOES THE CLUB HAVE A NEW POLICY?
First, we need to understand that previously the Club has not had any policy. The creation of this policy is a proactive document in case an incident ever occurs at a Club activity that requires authoritative action as a response to an unforeseen incident. The creation of this policy will enable the Club to respond quickly to an allegation about many types of mischievous conduct, including a theft or serious injury to a dog and violent behavior from a competitor. This is one of those policies that the Club hopes never to use, but we think it is important that we have a procedure to adopt if an unforeseen incident like these examples occurs. We are not aware of any other disc dog Club that has a detailed policy like this, but the American Kennel Club (AKC) and most representative dog sports organizations already have similar policies, and we think this policy will help protect our members.
WHAT SHOULD WE DO?
If a Club member obtains knowledge of an incident that occurs at a GADDC Club activity that has caused actual harm or may have potentially caused harm you are asked to report it to any Board member or elected officer of the Club, as they have authority pursuant to this Policy to immediately authorize an investigation and to appoint an Investigator. The Investigator, who cannot be a Board member or elected officer of the Club, will be responsible for investigating the incident on behalf of the Club. If the Investigator suspects that a criminal act has occurred they can contact Police and law enforcement officials and help them with their investigations.
HOW DOES THE POLICY WORK?
Regardless of whether or not Police and law enforcement officials become involved, the Investigator will conduct investigations into the incident and then present an Incident Report to the Board members and elected officers of the Club. Subsequently, if a Club member is identified as possibly having committed a violation of the Club's Code of Conduct they will be contacted, and an assessment will be made as to whether or not they have committed any violation.
WHAT HAPPENS IF A VIOLATION IS COMMITTED?
If someone is found to have committed a violation of the Club's Code of Conduct, the Board members and elected officers of the Club will identify an appropriate disciplinary response. Depending upon the seriousness of the violation, the disciplinary response could be as minimal as permanently deleting the violation so that there is no record of any violation, or as serious as being banned for life from being a member of the Club, and/or from competing an/or attending Club events.
CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION?
Yes. A copy of the Club's new Incident Investigation Policy will be available for your review at all Club activities. Also, you are encouraged to contact any of the Board members or elected officers of the Club to ask questions or provide feedback.
